Abstract: The Caccioppoli-Miranda approach to the theory of functions of bounded variation is extended to the setting of metric measure spaces in this course. The course will begin with an introduction to Sobolev space theory in the metric setting, and the geometry behind Poincare inequality is discussed. We will then look at sets of finite perimeter and their associated geometric measure theory. We will end the course by discussing various notions of Dirichlet problem for functions of least gradient (also known as 1-harmonic functions).
